- Constuction began in 2003 and ended in 2006.
- Location: The main segment of Ayalon Route.
- A plan for the expansion of the railway strip and the addition of a third railway in Ayalon route.
- Ayalon route currently includes only two railways along it.
- During the 90's, the train traffic increased due the continuous developing and upgrading by Israel Railways. The large number of stations and train stops in the route creates a "traffic bottleneck", delaying the routine schedule of Israel Railways. Therefore, a third railway, which will increase the train frequency, was planned for the route.
- At some parts along the route, the railway strip is not large enough to contain more than two railways. "The addition of a third railway" project includes several engineering operations; The expansion of the railway strip by the decrease of Ayalon canal size, and digging tunnels for the expansion of the canal beneath the highway, so the railway strip is being expanded, while the size of Ayalon canal is reincreased.
- As part of the project, four train stations along the major part of Ayalon route are being expanded, including the construction of additional passenger platforms.
- According to the predictions, the train frequency will increase during the next years, so the addition of a forth railway in the route will be necessary. The
plan of the forth railway is in early stages of development.
